Our History
Located in northern Chesterfield County in the Clover Hill District, the original Reams Road Elementary School opened in 1968 and was renovated in 1975 and in 1997. Chesterfield County Public Schools broke ground on the new Reams Road Elementary in October 2019. The new building is located on the same campus as the previous building and will open to students Aug. 23, 2021. The new 95,990-square-foot school has capacity for 750 students (a 50 percent increase from the previous building).
“Reams Road Elementary and all of the new and renovated schools made possible by the 2013 bond referendum show how we all benefit when we work together to serve students,” said School Board member Dorothy Heffron, who represents the Clover Hill District. “We are on the go to educate all of Chesterfield County’s children and create a community where all are welcome. Working together, we are meeting the needs of our students and we will continue to do that as we move forward into the future.”
The Reams Road Elementary project involved demolishing the original building and replacing it with a one-story, brick veneer building designed with a core area (for administration, media center, art, music and cafetorium) with three academic wings for grades K-5.
Security features include cameras, motion sensors, card access readers and fencing. Additional features include 75-inch interactive monitors in all classrooms; flexible common space in each wing; dedicated wi-fi throughout the building; LED lighting; water bottle stations; ample storage in each classroom; and touchless lavatories and flush sensors in restrooms.
Site improvements include a half mile of upgrades to Reams Road, including turn lanes; large teacher and staff parking lot with a parent drop-off loop; separate school bus entrance and drop-off loop; playgrounds; athletic fields; and underground stormwater management.
